Anna Marie Dober was born on May 13, 1938 in Portland, Oregon. She was the daughter of Mary (Tromp) Dober and George Dober. Ann was the eldest of 4 daughters, all born within 5 years of one another.. Ann, Catherine, Barbara (Barbie) and Dolores.
Ann took her role as "Big Sister" seriously. She was mature for her age and smart and was always there for her sisters who all remained close to one another throughout their lives. All four had a great sense of humor which made for a lot of fun times.
Ann and her sisters went to Catholic schools for 12 years. Ann had a great mind. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Portland in 1956 with honors and began her studies at Providence School of Nursing. She was the perfect candidate to become a nurse...smart, caring, reassuring, gentle disposition and always a wonderful warm smile.
After Ann got her nursing degree, she married George Johnson on August 22, 1959 and moved to California on her honeymoon where George was working for Douglas Aircraft as an engineer. Ann worked as a Pediatrics nurse at St John's Hospital in Santa Monica. Then the babies came...Kevin in 1960, Brian in 1961, David in 1963 and Laura in 1971. In 1965, the Johnson's moved from Hermosa Beach to Huntington Beach.
Ann was a great Mom and homemaker. She was always there for her children and very involved in their lives. Sadly, in 1979, she lost son Brian in an auto accident. He was only 18 years old. Before she could mourn herself, she was comforting Kevin, David, and Laura and Brian's many friends. They were in disbelief that Brian was gone.
Ann and George enjoyed being Grandparents to Lyric, LeAire, Zen, Mila, and Mari. George passed in 2011 due to complications of diabetes. Ann suffered a lot in her lifetime with physical ailments and broken bones but asked for God's help to get her through the pain and suffering. In 2012 she had a stroke and had a near death experience and had a glimpse of Heaven. It wasn't her time yet. Laura's girls were only 1 and 3 years old and Ann wanted them to have the "Grandma experience". Her sister Barbie became her full time caregiver. She learned to walk again. Then, in September 2017 she broke her leg and was confined to a wheelchair. Barbie could not lift her but did hire a caregiver who could... JOHN. Still in a wheelchair, John put on her make-up, did her hair and nails and off they went... Knotts Berry Farm, the Mall, the Swap Meet, the Pier. John would make her laugh til she cried. It was beautiful to see. This past June Ann had another stroke. She was ready to go this time and passed peacefully on October 6, 2019.
