Joy LaVonne Merryman

Joy "Gram" LaVonne Merryman was born on September 9, 1925 in Alma, Nebraska. Joy was the youngest of four sisters, preceded by Thelma, Iona and Cleo. Joy married her adoring husband, James (Howard) Merryman, in 1943. They welcomed their son, John, in 1946. The family of three lived in Nebraska, Phoenix, AZ and eventually San Francisco, CA to allow John to be close to Cal Berkeley where he would attend. Joy and Howard loved to travel around the country and spent their time after Howard's retirement doing what they enjoyed. They eventually settled in Las Vegas, NV to be close to the all-night action the city had to offer. Joy lost her husband, Howard, in 2006 and moved to be close to her son and granddaughters in Brea, CA. Her son, John, heartbreakingly passed away in 2009. Joy remained close to her two granddaughters, Kristyn Braund and Kymberli Hannah, until her passing on July 10, 2020 at age 94. She is survived by Kristyn and Kymberli as well as her adoring great grandchildren, Kensington Braund and Samuel Hannah. "Gram" will be missed dearly and the "joy" she brought to the world won't soon be forgotten.
