JACOBS, LAURENCE LIBERTY, M.D.
November 11, 1921 – February 27, 2019
Dr. Jacobs, of Newport Beach, CA, passed away peacefully at HOAG hospital at the age of 97. Dr. Jacobs served as an active physician for 65 years. Born in San Diego, CA on Armistice Day in 1921, Larry was one of eight siblings of Abraham and Lottie Jacobs. He attended San Diego State College, graduating in 1944, followed by the Keck School of Medicine of USC, graduating in 1949. Larry then served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. from 1951 to 1953 specializing in Neuropsychiatry during the Korean War. Upon return to the United States, he founded and directed the EEG-EMG Laboratory at St. Francis Hospital until 1976. Dr. Jacobs worked at HOAG Memorial Hospital Presbyterian for 35 years, serving as chairman of the Neurology Department starting in 1979, and founding the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory in 1981. Dr. Jacobs was a widely respected physician, and will be remembered as a compassionate and devoted man to his family, friends and patients. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Dr. Jacobs is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Barbara; his daughter and sons, Charlotte, Edwin and Paul; grandchild, Rowan; brother, Dan; sisters, Clara and Jessie; and many other family members. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held on March 30, 2019, at Mile Square Golf Course in Fountain Valley, CA.
