Tribute

Lynn Bumatay, long-time resident of Huntington Beach, California, passed away on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022 surrounded by family after suffering a stroke at the age of 79. Born on November 26th, 1942 in Conneaut, Ohio to Charles and Jean Porter, she was the older sister of Charles Porter born four years after her. After graduating from Chardon High School, she earned her BA at the University of Mount Union where she was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. At 20, she moved across the country to Delano, California where she accepted a position teaching high school English and where she met her future husband, Andrew Bumatay. The two married on August 21st, 1971 in San Clemente. At the time, Lynn was teaching at San Clemente high school but soon took a position at Dana Hils high school where she taught English until her retirement in 2004.

Shortly after their wedding, Lynn and Andy bought a house in Huntington Beach where they raised two daughters, Monica and Michelle. While teaching and raising a family, she was also the Grand Matron of Eastern Star San Clemente, President of the Girls and Boys Club Board of Directors, Advisor for the National Honors Society at Dana Hills high school, President of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Board of Directors, associate member of the Bumatay Bowling Team, and co-director of the Pacific Symphony Summer Bass Section Potluck at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater.

Lynn enjoyed teaching, reading, traveling and camping, bowling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Andrew, her daughter Monica and her husband Danny Regan and their three children Malayna, Dean, and Darcy, as well as her daughter Michelle and her husband Marc Hayhurst.
