Tribute

Pedro Santos Ramos departed this life on April 23, 2019 at the age of 94. Preceding him in death was his wife of 47 years Amparo Ramos, his parents Dionisio & Hermogena Ramos, brother Lucio & sisters Elena, Crisanta, Maria, Marcela, Hipolito & Carmen and his son-in-law Craig Winberg.

Pedro Santos Ramos was born on April 29, 1924 in Manila, Philippines to Dionisio Ramos and Hermogena Ramos.  Pedro was the 6th of 9 children. He was affectionately called “Pete” by his friends and family.

Being born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Pete graduated from Mapa High School in 1942 and attained his B.S. in Criminology and Forensic Science from Ortanez University in 1977.  He attended Philippine Christian University to start his MBA soon after.

During his 35 years of employment in the Metropolitan Police Force, Pedro Ramos started as a Patrolman in 1951. Pete was promoted to Detective in 1960, Detective Lieutenant in 1971, and Captain in 1977.  In 1981 Pete became the Police Major at the Western Police District and the Chief of the Mobile Patrol Division, the “District premier and elite strike force”.  In this capacity, Major Pedro Ramos led his men in successful multiple operations such as hostage taking incident, bank robbery, and apprehension of top criminals.  During his outstanding career as a police officer he received 7 letters of Appreciation, 8 Commendations, 5 Service Awards including Police Officer of the year 1980 and 6 Medals of Service.  In 1985, he was recommended to be promoted as Lieutenant Colonel, but later retired at age 62 and moved to US to be his daughters on May 12, 1986.

Pete met the girl next door, the love of his life, his soul mate Amparo Sayo and they got married October 18, 1952. They lived a simple life and showed their deepest aspiration to their love for one another.

Papa loved his family more than anything else. It was the life he devoted, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. While at times becoming an issue with Mama, he managed to hide the way he spoiled his daughters and grandchildren. We were the love of his life.

Papa is survived by his sister Celia; daughters Nelia, Julie, Jo and Tina; son-in-laws Rudy and Adrian; grandchildren Peter Andrew, Anthony, Alex, Ajay, Justin, Amanda and Anna; great-grandchildren Meghan, Aidan, Ethan, Leeiana and Miles; great-great-grandchild Jaxon.  Along with nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends that loved him dearly.

Words cannot express how much we miss you and love you!  Rest in paradise Papa Lolo.
