Rachelle K Surrency

March 10, 1971 ~ February 17, 2024 (age 52) 52 Years Old

Rachelle Kristin Surrency, 52, of Huntington Beach, passed away on February 17, 2024, after an extended illness. Her family is deeply saddened by the loss of this beautiful soul. Rachelle was born March 10, 1971 in Toledo, Ohio, the youngest of two children. She grew up in Virginia and received a debate scholarship to attend Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where she developed the Model United Nations for the university, won several debate team awards plus many other accolades, was a member of Pi Gamma Mu, and lived one of her dreams of studying abroad in London. After college, she spent many months solo backpacking around Europe as she loved to travel. After returning to the states, she moved around the US for several years as she advanced in her career. A job in regional sales and a VP position brought her to southern California in 2001 where she settled in Huntington Beach and had been there ever since.

She married her husband, Ross, in 2007. After their two children were born, Rachelle could always be found in one volunteer position or another: PTA, cub scouts, soccer coach, soccer ref, AYSO Board of Directors, AYSO yearbook chair, President of GATE club, etc. She was passionate about education and took advantage of several programs to enhance her kids’ learning experience outside the classroom.

Rachelle kept the children very active including Tae Kwon Do, little league baseball, girls softball, scouts, triathlons, AYSO and club soccer. She shared a love of the outdoors with Ross with activities like hiking Mt. Whitney (unaware she was pregnant with child #1), camping in Joshua Tree, charity bicycle rides in Palm Springs, paddle boarding in Huntington Harbour, running events in Dana Point and Huntington, and attending Angels baseball games. There was very little she was afraid to try. She was wicked smart and had a witty sense of humor. She went out of her way to help others while often neglecting her own needs. She and the family attended First Christian Church in Huntington.

She is survived by her husband (Ross), two children (Everett and Audrey), step-daughter (Madison Kester), parents Cheryl Gable, Richard Mericle, Leonard Gable, and brother (Richard Keene).

A celebration of life is in planning, and details will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Boy Scouts of America - Friends of Scouting (FOS)
